WINTER BASS FISHING WHAT TO BE PREPARED FOR

Winter bass fishing is when most bass anglers start off their season doing, but are they prepared with the correct fishing gear, did you take time to get ready for the changes in weather being high of 70 one day and two days later it has a high of 50. Did you dress in layers keeping in mind it feels 10 degrees lower on the water or more if the wind is blowing.

In January and February the second thing you will deal with is heading to a lake seeing a ramp frozen over due to many boats pulling out of the water to fast after they have launched, a little trick I have done is to bring along some sand or ice melt to put on the landing but you have to make sure it is bio degradable so it will not hurt the fishery, or I have launched off the bank.

Now your in the water and getting ready don't forget that a lot of times the deck on your boat will be slippery, so be careful not to fall in the water, your rods and reels will ice up so just dip them in the water keeping in mind the water will be warmer than the air temperature at this time of day.

Winter bass fishing My club tournament opener in North Carolina in February one year a member asked if I had a open boat for a guest he wanted to introduce to the club as a possible candidate. We meet at the ramp and I noticed that he didn't have fishing gear with him for winter and I am speaking about clothing here, he came to the lake wearing a jacket with no sleeves, no skull cap, no gloves so I told him I have a extra pair of gloves and hat in the truck would you like them or maybe put on my rain suit he replied no thanks He was from New York and it was a lot colder there then it ever got in North Carolina.

I also told the young man I would be making about a twenty mile trip to the dam to fish so bundle up, off we go about half way there he tapped me on the shoulder so I stoped, he asked do you have the coat and gloves and something to cover my face because I am freezing and He never thought that 48 degrees could be so cold. I had to cut my day short so I could get him back to my truck to warm up. THe reason for this story is for you to dress in layer and stay warm other wise it can be a long day on the water.

Winter bass fishing lakes that have grass is a plus and this is where the lipless crank bait is key, because the grass will hold heat in the winter time, just like it cools down the fish in the summer. Now this grass will be in deeper water and you will have to use your electronics to find it or know the lake well enough to pin point it by sight, but just use your electronics to get you over the correct location I will put a icon on my gps for my areas.

I am looking for grass in the 5 to 8 foot mark with deep water near by, fish will move up looking for food as the day goes along just need to be at the right place at the right time. Make sure you are located in a area that the sun will hit so it may warm up the water 1 or 2 degrees, this can make a difference if you get a bite or not.

Winter bass fishing rocks is another good key as long as you are fishing the sunny side, the rocks collect heat from the sun and this helps warm the water in that area. Time to break out the spinner bait and parallel them to stay within the strike zone bad time to be in the back of the boat as they would say.

From Winter Bass Fishing To Sharing Bass Fishing-Info

I would like to know what type of lures you want to talk about.

Having problems with a new lure you bought or
would you like to know different ways to fish one or would you just like to add to what I have said and tell a story of a fish you caught on the lure we are featuring for the month. Through the years I have learned things from Pros either by reading,
TV shows, or them personally some things I like some I don't.

It's good to try new things to see if they work for you but you always need to fish
your comfort zone and work on your versatility
